another apology

coming to terms with the minnesota
you throw him in my face, you do
it is difficult for me to have him still

...with the snow coming down just as
fast as the sun, his eye lashes
unconsciously catching the hexagon flakes

i said i was so, so sorry to you
groveled, begged, pleaded to you
but you're so consumed in yourself

i'm sure you didn't hear the knot
strangle back a few weak sobs
from seeping out of my throat

and i've apologized too many times
for what you've made me go through
i'm sorry, but i can't be sorry forever

...i drove away, turned on the wipers,
neglected the heater, unbuckled the seatbelt,
and sat in 30 mph silence

...the snow took shapes gliding
over the beam of my head lights,
i knew what i had done

i ruined something i thought was
cherished enough to keep
i'm sorry i hurt you, but you're hurting me

That first stanza is so hot. The rhythm and timing is so slick. Also, being personally involved in a long distance relationship (perhaps, "with the great lake/ you throw in my face";) brings this a little closer to home.

Powerful feelings here.
